Music and the Arts

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is open to all adults who enjoy sharing their musical talent during worship. The Chancel Choir participates regularly at the 11:00 worship service. The choir rehearses September through June at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday. Rehearsals are open to anyone with a joy of singing and no experience is necessary. The Chancel Choir also features eight staff and associate soloists and section leaders.

James Ringers (Adult Handbell Choir)

The adult handbell choir participates monthly during worship services and other special events throughout the church year. They rehearse at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday nights. A good sense of rhythm and good motor-skills are the only requirements.

Joyful Chimers (Youth Handbell Choir)

The Joyful Chimers are a group of children who like to express to the congregation their love of Christ through their musical talents. Currently there are children from the 4th through 7th grades. They rehearse Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.

Youth and Children Choirs

First Presbyterian Church has three children/youth choirs:

Soundseekers –  2 to 6 year olds

Treble Makers – 2nd to 5th graders

Revelations – 6th to 12th graders

These choirs meet on Sunday mornings and participate in worship services monthly.

Angulo Memorial Organ Concert Series

Named in honor of long-time member Betty Angulo, her generous financial gift underwrites the presentation of two to three major organ concerts and musical events, featuring world-renowned organists and musicians annually. The concerts are open to the public and are free of charge.

Sanctuary Pipe and Chapel Organs

First Presbyterian Church is blessed with a magnificent sanctuary pipe organ, consisting of 50 pipe and 135 digital ranks, comprising a total of 150 voices. Beginning with a 1912 Felgemaker pipe organ, installing a new Reuter pipe organ in 1948, the sanctuary today enjoys a 4-manual custom console, manufactured by the Rodgers Organ Company, installed and dedicated in 2008. Its state-of-the-art design allows for a wide range of musical styles, including a full compliment of MIDI voices. The Chapel organ is a comprehensive 3-manual Rodgers digital instrument, installed in 2002.
